 social-networking-onlineSome businesses use social networking sites to check out potential employees. Jobseekers beware - employers are increasingly checking out networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to get a feel for prospective employees. Fiona Hewitt, director of Brand YOU, says while some are just “checking out drunken photos on Facebook”, savvy employers are using these sites as a recruitment tool to assess people’s public persona and reputation.

Comedy clubs are enjoying a rare boom amid Britain’s worst recession since the early 1980s.  With plummeting bank balances and rising unemployment, there’s plenty for us to feel down about. But the UK’s comedy clubs are providing the tonic that’s needed.

Jobs that are in high demand - despite the recession.

calculator stethoscopeIt is ironic that Hays, the recruitment specialist that has announced 900 UK redundancies in the past year, has published a list of the most recession-resilient jobs. The listing of roles for which there is high demand at the recruitment firm includes underwriters, claims staff and internal auditors. There is also incredible demand for high end financial advisers with companies like Edward Jones - recently voted one of the top companies to work for in the world!

bill-gates-moneyThe richest people in the world have gotten poorer, just like the rest of us. This year the world’s billionaires have an average net worth of £2 billion, down 23% in 12 months. The world now has 793 billionaires, down from 1,125 a year ago. That’s a financial loss of £1 trillion pounds. Just the thought brings tears to my eyes.
