ASHES 2009: Employersjobs guide to the players of the moment!
Employersjobs.com are taking this chance to make commentary on the players picked for the England side for Ashes2009! Not only are we assessing each players team and field profiles BUT what they’d see themselves doing career wise once their cricket hey days are behind them!
ANDREW STRAUSS: In prime form, playing at his own tempo again. Fit,strong and level-headed. A really tough customer but personable too. Enjoying leadership and working well with Andy Flower. 8/10. Future employment wanted: Hotel receptionist.
ALASTAIR COOK: Mentally strong and gets best out of his ability. He is never going to empty a bar but is effective and has knack of scoring runs. A top-class individual and, at 24, very mature for his age 7/10. Future employment wanted: School teacher.
RAVI BOPARA: Confident, ambitious, likeable lad. Classy batsman with all the shots. On the verge of something special. Has learned to play within himself like his mentor Graham Gooch did. 7/10. Future employment wanted: Member of Parliament.
KEVIN PIETERSEN: An unbelievable talent, desperate to be loved. After this series, the British public will decide whether to accept him. Has had a lot on his plate, but turns it on when it really matters. 9/10. Future employment wanted: Prime Minister.
PAUL COLLINGWOOD: Mr Dependable. Mr Team. Mr under Pressure, every time he plays. Like Jonty Rhodes did for South Africa, glues team together. Self-deprecating and grounded but real fighter who loves a battle. 7/10. Future employment wanted: Big brother contestant.
ANDREW FLINTOFF: England’s iconic X Factor. Australia will fear his bowling. They know what’s coming - scud missiles - but can they cope? Batting could be red hot or ice cold. World-class bloke. 9/10. Future employment wanted: Simon Cowell stand-in.
MATT PRIOR: Batting shows real authority so would be pushing for a place even if not keeping wicket. Gives team balance but glove work will be under constant scrutiny. A good, solid character. 7/10. Future employment wanted: Wicket Keeper.
STUART BROAD: Coming on in leaps and bounds. Could thrive in this series. Polite and looks angelic, but aggressive and has ruthless streak. Canny bowler who is getting stronger and bowling fast. 8/10. Future employment wanted: Dictatorship.
GRAEME SWANN: Loving his opportunity to play for England. A wise bowler who works out ideal pace, but should score more runs. Pressure on him as senior spinner. The joker - full of fun. 7/10. Future employment wanted: Press secretary for the PM.
JAMES ANDERSON: Gets better and better. Fit, athletic, relishing responsibility. Has come to terms with action and learnt to swing ball both ways. A big threat to Australia. Quiet man off the field. 9/10. Future employment wanted: Open to offers.
MONTY PANESAR: I’m a fan. Has enormous fingers which let him give ball a rip. Not too worried about poor form in county cricket. Has a good action and should just be himself. A sensitive soul. 7/10. Future employment wanted: Hair Dresser.
I could not evaluate the Australian team as I am unaware who they will be fielding. No matter what happens in the series, no matter the result. I can with complete confidence assure all the England team that they have already made their first correct decision by hitting a six by scoring with employersjobs.com.
