Office romances - good or bad idea?

It’s natural to find love at work. It’s where people spend most of their time. But an office romance can be risky for the lovebirds and their company. Employers are concerned that the sweethearts will fall behind in their work or that the relationship could sour and lead to sexual harassment charges. Some companies prohibit romantic relationships altogether; an employee who falls in love could get fired. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Online Job Market improves in the UK

jobsinukimproveThe online job market in the UK continues to show signs of recovery in November, results of a survey by online employment solutions company Monster Worldwide showed. The Monster Employment Index UK rose two points to 116 in November, climbing for the second month in a row. In October, the index had risen sharply to 114 from 107 in September. A year ago, the index stood at 152.

Uk minimum wage increase.

minimum-wage-increaseThe escalating food and energy bills are putting pressure on household finances around the world. In the UK it’s just been announced that the minimum wage will rise to £5.73 in October. This is a 3.8% rise from £5.52 - for 18 to 21-year-olds the rate will be £4.77, up from £4.60, while 16 to 17-year-olds will get £3.53, up from £3.40.

Jobs that are in high demand - despite the recession.

calculator stethoscopeIt is ironic that Hays, the recruitment specialist that has announced 900 UK redundancies in the past year, has published a list of the most recession-resilient jobs. The listing of roles for which there is high demand at the recruitment firm includes underwriters, claims staff and internal auditors. There is also incredible demand for high end financial advisers with companies like Edward Jones - recently voted one of the top companies to work for in the world!
