Targeted Executive CV advice (part 1)
Many executives every year find out just how detrimental a bad CV can be on ones career. It’s essential that your CV be the one that stands out of the crowd – and by crowd we mean the hundreds of other CV’s hiring decision makers are forced to review ad nauseam.
Ensure your CV doesn’t lack the following:
1. A clear job focus:
Most of the information in your CV should be geared towards the specific requirements of the job on offer. It’s important to remember that decision makers don’t want to sift through irrelevant information in your CV format. You need to encourage the decision maker to make a connection between you and the job right off the bat.
2. Branding / Marketing:
Many companies are looking for a personal sparkle or chemistry to your application – it’s important to market yourself right for the job. Personal branding especially in an economic downturn just makes good business sense.
3. Value proposition:
Like any product the points of value you are proposing to a new employer needs to be clear and focused.
4. Career highlights:
Allow decision makers to hone in on what you can potentially achieve for their company or organisation. This is most easily done by pointing out the great benefits and highlights from your past companies. Follow a “challenge, actions, impact” framework to paradigm your successes.
