Struggling to land that job - here is some advice.
One of the most annoying let downs when you find a job you really want is to be told you’re over qualified. In the current economy world wide - many people are being retrenched, losing their jobs and are looking for new opportunities. You need to be able to restructure your CV to not seem intimidating or out of the salary range of your prospective employers - noone recommends dumbing down your CV but at the end of the day it’s about being right for the job - you definately need to be targeted about what appears in your CV.
Remember to customise your CV and cover letter for each new job that you are applying for - it’s important to reference exactly what skills, traits or qualifications make you the best candidate for the position you are going for. It’s important to highlight your successes in similar positions and how this will best benefit the company you are applying to.
Consider what information you need to place where, in order for the most relevant points to your prospective employer to be first and then lesser supporting points further on in your CV. This will help you stand out from the gazillion other jobseekers CV’s that they will be going through. Many people think placing as much information about themselves down on paper will get them the job. But after reading a hundred CV’s employers appreciate short and succinct applications.
It’s very important to also make sure you don’t lie or change job titles etc. This is the first way to guarantee you don’t get hired. With the job market being so competitive it’s even tougher to fool hiring managers - once you are caught out not only will you lose the chance of being employed but word will also spread around to not trust you in the future, ruining your reputation on the market as a viable candidate. Don’t panic either - the right job is out there for you - you won’t need to lie to get it, just arrange your information carefully.
